New York T20 Big Bash
New York City is the epicenter of American sports history. In 1844, NYC made its mark in the world’s sports history books by hosting the first official international cricket match between two nations – Canada and the USA. Now the stage is set for another historic cricket event. With just 3 days left for the inaugural New York T20 Big Bash Cricket Tournament, the organizers are thrilled with the feedback and excitement the tournament has generated.
The New York T20 Big Bash Cricket Tournament is set for this weekend, where sixteen high-powered teams combined with international, national and local players will be participating in this historical event. The team will be competing for the first prize of $15,000.00 and the Championship Trophy, sponsored by of Cricket Zone.
Six of the sixteen teams were featured last Thursday on the “Cricket Voice Show” and from interviews conducted by Carl Bennett, Lenny Achaibar and Jamie Lloyd, the teams are all hyped up and are raring to do battle this weekend.
The New York fans will get an opportunity to witness some former international stars, established stars, potential stars and even some of the best junior stars from around the USA including former Guyana and West Indies player Neil McGarrel, Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson , former Guyana player Sudesh Dhaniram, USA players Akeem Dodson , Azurdeen Mohammed , Glenn Hall, Karran Ganesh, Clain Williams, the hard hitting Abdulla Syed , Jacobs Emanuel, young Randall Wilson, Troy Mars , Zahib Tariq and Waqas Shaw.
The tournament will be held in Queens at Baisley Pond Park and Idlewild Park, whilst in Brooklyn at Marine Park, 8oth Street & Seaview Ave, 88th Street & Seaview Ave and 108th Street and Seaview Ave. The tournament format will have the 16 teams divided into 4 groups with each team playing three preliminary games – two on Friday and one Saturday morning. The two top teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals to be held on Saturday afternoon. The Semi-finals and finals are set for Sunday at the two venues in Queens .The first eight games will start promptly at 12:00pm on Friday and the second game at 4:00pm. Some of the games including the semi-finals and finals will have live commentary courtesy of the sweet voices of Lenny Achaibar and Carl Bennett and all the games will have live scoring on www.NYT20.com from CricHQ and Jamie Lloyd.
Seventeen of USCUA umpires will officiate the games with Mr. Danny Khan as the coordinator. NY T20 Group would like to thank the President of the USCUA Mr. Fitzroy Hales for his support.
