Big Bash 2014
New York Tristate cricket organization has announced that it will be hosting a Big Bash International women T/20 cricket tournament on Memorial Day weekend, May 23, 24, 25, 26 of this year. One team each from Grenada, India, Canada, New York and New Jersey have submitted their confirmation letters indicating that they will participate in the tournament.
The organization was formed in 2003 to promote and develop youth and women cricket and has placed more female, Under 19 and men cricketers on USA teams than any other organization in this country.
This tournament is being conducted in conjunction with New York Cricket Region, the local body responsible for promoting the sport in the New York area. New York is the home of women cricket in the USA for it was here that women cricket began in 2003. In that year, a USA Invitational X1, with two players from Canada, competed in the Caribbean women championship.
The tournament will begin with an opening ceremony and parade of cricketers and the round robin competition will feature four matches on Friday, in two locations, and three each on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the first game will feature the third and fourth place teams followed by the championship game between the first and second place finishers. The tournament will conclude with the Presentation of Awards.
