American Cricket Federation
The American Cricket Federation is pleased to welcome the Arizona Cricket Association (ACA) as a member league.
The ACA was formed over twenty years ago with six teams. Today, ACA has 18 teams divided between two leagues stretching from North Phoenix to Tucson. The diversity of the league brings in players from many backgrounds, varying skill levels and ages for a highly competitive environment. ACA also delivers an ideal development opportunity for children who have never been exposed to cricket.
ACA encourages and promotes the game of cricket at the various festivals and local cultural events to introduce kids and adults to our amazing sport. ACA are now working on getting involved with the local school districts and will donate cricket kits and teach the students and teachers how to play cricket, the game of gentlemen and sportsmanship.
One of the unique things about the Arizona Cricket Association is that they are the only league in the USA that plays its regular league matches during the winter months. In Arizona this time boasts ideal cricket weather, with temperatures in the low to mid 70s and clear blue skies. Numerous out-of-state teams have come on tour to Arizona and they would welcome anyone who wishes to come to their sunny state when most of the other parts of the country are deep in snow, cold or in torrential rainstorms.
ACA President Rod Gohil said, “The Arizona Cricket Association is proud to host the First Annual North American Cricket Championship™, which will be played on one of the most picturesque and the premier grounds in Arizona, on all-natural turf wickets. The grounds at Nichols Park Basin in Gilbert, Arizona was voted as one of the top five grounds in USA by DreamCricket.com in 2009. This was also the ground selected for shooting Direct TV’s commercial with Australia’s Shaun Marsh and then Dodger Manny Ramirez for their Cricket Ticket promotion.”
“ACF is delighted to receive the Arizona Cricket Association as a member league,” said CEO Jamie Harrison. “Rod and his team have done a tremendous job in bringing cricket to the Valley, and we are delighted to be represented in this beautiful part of America.”
