The United States Cricket Association (USACA) today announced the National Men’s Cricket Squad to compete in the Auty Cup Tournament. The Auty Cup is a classic USA vs. Canada competition and includes a 2 day fixture, a 50 over fixture and two T20 fixtures. The series of games will take place in Toronto from July 25 to 28th, 2013.
The Auty Cup has a long history with the first match between USA and Canada being played in 1844 and is, in fact, the oldest international fixture in cricket. Canada currently holds the Auty Cup following victory in Fort Lauderdale last year.
There is a lot of cricket in 2013 for USA Senior National players and work commitments have meant that some senior players are unavailable. However, the US National Selectors see this as a great opportunity for some of the emerging talent within the squad to push their claims for a place at the World Cup T20 Qualifier in Dubai in November.
The Auty Cup final squad to represent the USA is;
Team USA will be coached by Mr. Robin Singh and will depart for Canada on July 24s discretion. th. The US team will be led by Steven Taylor with potential opportunities for other players to be involved in leadership roles at Coach Singh’
USA National Coach Robin Singh said; “This is a relatively young group of players and I want them to go out onto the field confident that they can win this tournament and play fearless cricket. I am also excited to see how the young group of bowlers stand up to tough challenges when their skills are tested both mentally and physically”.
USA National Chairman of Selectors Mr. Selwyn Caesar spoke from New York today; “The unavailability of some players for the Auty Cup 2013 against Canada in Toronto provides an opportunity for players in the National squad to showcase their talent for consideration at future tournaments. I expect the team to be competitive in all three formats of the game being played during the tournament. We wish them well and know that they’ll give a good account of themselves.”
