It was a beautiful and sunny day and the weather was perfect for a good game of cricket. It was just what the doctor ordered.
And the players did not disappoint the large crowd which packed the Baisley ground at Foch Blvd. last Saturday.
Commonwealth was a finalist in the Mayor’s Cup played at 80 Street, Brooklyn couple years ago. Only 3 players, Shahid, Wahab and Vijay Seonarine have survived from that team.
So it was 3 veterans and 8 newcomers that took the stage against a very strong EACA team led byKaran Ganesh.
Batting first, Commonwealth posted a healthy score in their 20 overs of 173. The main contributors were Mohsin “Ryan” Khan who made a solid 86 which included five 4′s and two 6′s.
He was ably supported by Shahid 15, Vijay “Nap” Seonarine 18 and captain Fahad Sultan 13.
Nair from EACA took 2 wickets and Johnson also 2.
EACA did not disappoint and made a strong comeback although falling short by 20 runs.
Top scorer Johnson made 41 runs with many coming in boundaries and he had good support from skipper Karan Ganesh who made 29.
Their total of 153 was full of good shots from all their top-order batsmen.
Bowling for Commonwealth, the mighty Wahab took 4 wickets for 31 runs. Vijay Seonarine took 2 and Irfan 1.
All in all, it was a good day for the fans that were in attendance but it was the brilliant cricket it came out winner.
