On a Sunny and beautiful day for cricket, Sri Lankan Cricket Club hosted United Sports Club in a 30 Overs encounter at Seaview ground in Staten Island on Sunday.
Sri Lanka took first strike after winning the toss and score 197 for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 30 overs. Kamran top scored with 65 runs, Keerthi a quick fire 43 not out, Shanaka 30 and Garlick 28 of which 24 came off of 1 over which consist of 6x4s.
Bowling for United Sports, David Mohamed picked up 2 wickets, Steve Massiah, Dino Chow-Wee-Nam, G. Phillips and Cameron Mirza claimed 1 wicket each.
United Sports in reply replied with 200 for the loss of 1 wicket in 21.3 overs. Dino Chow-Wee-Nam and Cameron Mirza opened the batting for United Sports and posted the club’s first 100 runs opening partnership for the season.
Cameron Mirza was the lone wicket to fall caught off the bowling of Dulhan in the 12 overs of the innings for a well played 38 runs. Steve Massiah walked in at number 3 to join Dino Chow-Wee-Nam who was on 51.
The pair of Dino and Steve did not disappoint the players and spectators with some mighty hitting and stroke playing. In 10 overs they took the score to 200 runs wicket less. Dino Chow-Wee-Nam finished with a brilliant 106 not out which includes 7 huge sixes and 7 fours.
The century took his average of the season to 63.33 runs. Steve Massiah at one point has to restraint himself from hitting the big shot in order for Dino to achieve his century. Steve Massiah who has been consistent and in sublime form scored 40 not out with 3 mighty sixes and 3 fours. He took his personal score of the season to 495 runs at an average of 82.50 runs. He has already chalked up 2 centuries and two half centuries.
United Sports Club won the game with 8.3 overs to spare.
