Long Island City (10-0) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (9-0) continued with their undefeated streak during week seven of the NYC Public School Athletic Cricket League.  After last year’s “super over” (sudden death) championship match, it’s not surprising that both teams are unbeaten this year.  Are we going to see a repeat of last year’s final or will another school prevail?

Lehman (6-3) and Clinton (7-2) have shown a great deal of improvement for the past two years after both teams defeated former PSAL champions, William Bryant HS (5-5) during the regular season.  Bryant then came back to thump Newcomers (7-4), while Bronx Science (2-8) fell five runs short of upsetting the inaugural champions.

Long Island City bounced back from a nail-biting finish against Lehman after they defeated top contender Martin Van Buren (7-3) twice within the same week, while Richmond Hill (9-1) handed John Adams (8-1) its first defeat of the season in a thriller at the famous Baisley Park South.  On the otherhand, Hillcrest (6-2) restricted the same Richmond Hill batsmen to 75 all out on May 1st.

One may think that Long Island City and Franklin D. Roosevelt would be favorites to go all the way, but it’s very difficult to predict the outcome of the playoffs with so many teams playing competitive cricket.

In Brooklyn, FDR continues to dominate the other Brooklyn teams as they improved to a 9-0 record, while Franklin K. Lane (5-6) and Prospect Heights (5-6) scrambled to secure a playoffs spot.
