Rockaway CC faced Falcons at Cunningham Park last Sunday. Falcons won the toss and sent Rockaway in to bat, a costly mistake as the pitch was a batsman paradise. Rockaway’s opening pair of Robert and Saud didn’t get the team off to a great start, but they kept rotating the strike. Saud was batting well and looked good, but was run out by his own fault. Pawan came to join Robert, but didn’t seem to be in good touch, he was soon out after consistent edges.

At this point Rockaway were about 41 for 3. Next came Danny, he would play a fine innings to help carry the team on. He played a patient and calm knock, stroking the ball around with ease and looked in good touch. To assist Danny was Hafeez, the two of them put on a good partnership before Hafeez retired. Hafeez looked equally good and looked determined to stick around. He would later come to bat again and remain not-out on 21. To join Danny next was Richi, the two of them put on a tremendous partnership that would help propel Rockaway past 200. Richi was the more aggressive of the two, playing big shots and getting the boundaries quickly. Richi’s big hitting got him a fast 56 before being stumped. After Richi’s dismissal Bahman came to the crease, he made a good contribution of 22 which included a massive 6 out the ground. Danny was the pick of the batsmen he made a game high of 60. The last three batters for RCC contributed 14 to end the innings on 228.

After the innings break it was Falcons turn at the crease. Their openers looked aggressive from the first ball, but maybe too much so. They lost their first wicket in the third ball of the innings. Rockaway opened the ball with Ramlal and Danny. Next at the crease was Jaboo, who looked more determined to give a fight and was only one of two to trouble the bowlers. Jaboo made 53 before being caught. Falcons number 4, 5 and 6 batsmen contributed only 8 to their cause.

Coming in at 7 was their skipper Sunil. He batted well but didn’t seem to have the support needed to bring the game home. That, and good bowling from Pacey and Bahman tied the batsmen down, forcing the bad shots after the pressure built. Sunil made a good captain’s knock of 50 but couldn’t manage to bring the game home. Bahman was the pick of the bowlers he got 4 wickets in his 7 overs. Pacey was the most economical and managed to got 3 wickets in his 7. Ramlal bowled good for his 1 in his 7, so did Danny who got 2 in his spell. Richi was a bit expensive he didn’t manage to pick up a wicket. Falcons were all out for 194.

Overall it was a good clean win for Rockaway who remain undefeated.
