(Celebrating 29th Anniversary):- After playing some excellent cricket in their last four matches of the season and at a time when the team was beginning to find their blend, Cosmos allowed an air of complacency to sieve in. And subsequently they produced a lackluster performance against Pioneer at Gateway Park last Sunday and paid the price as they suffered their first defeat in the Metropolitan Cricket League 2012 Round Robin competition.

Cosmos got off to a good start pushing the score to 71 for 1 in the 19th over, after pioneer won the toss and chose to field. The inning took a free fall when Anjel Acharya reached across and was adjudged lbw. Thereafter, the Cosmos inning took a dramatic turn with a combination of poor shot selection and poor running between the wickets.

Faisal Taj (27) miscued to short fine leg, Haraldo Marshall (20) popped up to mid off, Sohan Dass (6) was run out from a direct hit, a poorly judged run off an Achaibar’s tuck to backward point, Rasheem James contentious nick to the wicketkeeper and Achaibar’s (14) soft slice to point left Cosmos reeling on 111 for 6 at by the 28th over.

Pioneer was brilliant in the field, they grabbed every chance that were given to them included three run outs and proceeded to squeeze Cosmos to the end. A 7th  wicket partnership of 56 runs between Rolston Levy (37) and Sham Ali (23) managed to revived the cosmos inning all but briefly, another two run outs added to cosmos wounds as the score trickled to 188 all out in 38.3 overs with K. Narine on 13 not out.

Pioneer opening batsmen came out with an aggressive plan of attack. The score raced to 69 for 2 in only 8 overs with Sumon Bari (41) taking his chances as Cosmos opening bowlers struggled for consistency. Cosmos fought themselves back into the match with a tidy spell from Ricky Kissoon to hold the opposition on 110 for 4 in 20 overs.

When D. Forbes loud nicked to the wicketkeeper was turned down, Cosmos knew that their efforts had to be multiplied, they asked a few more questions that were unanswered and at one point Kissoon refused to ask any further. A crucial match winning partnership of 69 runs then developed between Forbes (43 not out) and T. Walters (43) as Pioneer got home to 189 for 5 in 38th over.
