(Celebrating 29th Anniversary):- Cosmos completed a comfortable 5-wicket victory over Frank Parsons at Floyd Bennett Field last Sunday. A victory that weighed heavily on the experience of the senior players, a five wicket haul from Mohan Kissoon and a gritty rearguard inning from former Guyana national player Sohan Dass after Frank Parsons won the toss and elected to bat.

Cosmos came into this match with their confidence on a high after an emphatic 9-wicket victory over Island Wide in their first match. Rasheem James (2 for 20) operating from the Aviation end extracted some additional life off the wicket with two decisive blows in the 5th  over when he send T. Mathley’s mid-stump flying and then knocked R. Fletcher plumb on his toes to give Cosmos the early break through. However, Parsons recovered to 90 by the 22nd over before Ricky Kissoon removed R. Smith (16). With Kissoon (1 for 26 off 8 overs) and Sohan Dass (0 for 22 off 8 overs) were operating in tandem, the runs dried up, as Cosmos kept the pressure on the opposition with some brilliant fielding especially within the 30-yard circle.

It was not until the 32nd over with the score on 125 for 3 that Cosmos picket up their next wicket. Mohan Kissoon removed the danger man K. Robinson stumped for a well played 50. He proceeded to mopped up the tail with figures of 5 for 5, while Wicketkeeper Kristoff Narine recovered some energy under the sun added another five stumping in the match. Sajib Salam bagged 2 for 37. Frank Parsons ended their inning on reasonable 156 in their 40 overs.

Cosmos in their reply suffered an early hiccup when both Faisal Taj and Haraldo Marshall, two champions from the last match, back in the pavilion with only 19 runs on the board. Cosmos recovery was left on the broad shoulders of Sohan Dass. He anchored one end and held the inning, and heads of the two younger players together in two crucial partnerships; a 32-runs with James (4) before he was run out when he attempted an impossible run with the score on 51, and then a 46-runs partnership with Narine.

Dass inning, a Chanderpaul like, was ended via lbw when he attempted an overly ambitious sweep. He went for a dogged 43 runs, but not before he had put his team in a commanding position on course for victory. Young Narine then played the role of senior batsman as he a Sham Ali (17) took the score to 130 runs, before Ali went caught at square leg. With the score on 151, Narine was then run out for a well played 39 runs after he, perhaps out of breath, fell short on a second run. R. Kissoon (8) and Salam took Cosmos home to a comfortable 5-wicket victory.

COSMOS WILL PLAY RIVER VALLEY AT POUGHKEEPSIE ON JUNE 3.
