So far, this year has been a very busy year for USA cricket, and we are only in the first quarter of the year. The USA National Men’s XI has participated in the ICC WT20 Qualifier in the UAE and the ICC Division 5 Tournament in Nepal, finishing at the top of the ladder in the latter. From all appearances 2010 will continue to be a very busy year for cricket in the USA.
Young pacer Dominic Audain will be on display this weekend at the USA team trials.

This weekend, Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25, the national Men’s senior team will participate in a training camp in New York at Canarsie Park 80th Street & Seaview Avenue, Brooklyn. The camp will be supervised by US national cricket coach Clayton Lambert and include the following players selected, Usman Shuja, Sushil Nadkarni, Aditya Thyagarajan, Steve Massiah, Clain Williams. Carl Wright, Rashard Marshall, Glen Hall, Ryan Corns, Mohammad Ghous, Andy Mohamed, Saqib Saleem, Ashar Medhi, Bilal Khan, Nauman Mustafa, Ravi Timbawala, Roopnarine Gowkarran, Alexandrino Kirton, O'neil Powell, Dominic Audain, Dwayne Smith, Akeem Dodson, M. Imtiaz, R. Ashhar, I. Pattan, Orlando Baker, Imran Awan, Saurabh Verma, Lennox Cush, Kevin Darlington, Sudesh Dhaniram and Timroy Allen, all vying for slots on the USA national squad to tour Bermuda between May 29 and June 7 for the ICC Americas Division I Men’s Tournament. The USA will be defending its championship title of the same name, won in Florida in 2008.

Between the Bermuda tour and the ICC World Cricket League Division IV Men’s tournament, scheduled for Bologna, Italy between August 14 and 21, the USA will entertain the National Women’s Tournament between June 4 and 6, in Cupertino, California. That tournament will serve as the selection camp for the USA Women’s National XI to do battle with their Canadian counterparts in Canada in July.

The National Under-15 Tournament is set for July 15 to 18 and the National Under-19 Tournament from August 6 to 9.

The USA’s Senior Men's Eastern and Western Conference Tournaments is scheduled for September, with the Eastern Conference from September 10 to 12 at a venue yet to be determined, and the Western Conference scheduled for Los Angeles between September 17 and 19.

The much-anticipated New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka series following the ICC WT20 in the Caribbean next month is still on the drawing board, and an announcement regarding the details is expected shortly.

It is reassuring to know that we are, at long, doing the right thing in preparing for tournaments. Having the players in camp is positive step, in fact, necessary. I, like so many cericket lovers hope that when the time comes to select the squad, our administrators will do the right thing and select players based on performance and ability, and not on favoritism and nepotism. Congratulations to you guys.
