Florida Cup 2009 – Day 1, Session 2

After of two days of exciting cricket in the Florida Cup 2009, the finalists NYSCL and South Florida will battle it out after lunch tomorrow at the beautiful Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale.

Earlier today, NYSCL walloped Canada by nine wickets and more than eleven overs to spare to earn the right to take on the surprising and huge underdog, South Florida. South Florida knocked off WISA easily by four wickets.

The following are the results from the semi final games completed late this afternoon.

Semi Final I
South Florida won the toss and put WISA to bat. WISA managed 143 for 9 off the allotted 25 overs. R. Ivan top scored with 52. V. Seenarine chipped in with 36. Andy Ramsaywack took 3 for 33. Sudesh assisted with 2 for 20. South Florida replied with 145 for 6 in 21 overs. Asif Ally top scored with 55. He was well supported by M. Sadick who made 23. P. Sukhdeo took 3 for 29 while M. Matai bagged 2 for 13.


Kris Sobhai struck an unbeaten 73 against Canada.

Pooran Beria took 4 for 21 to help NYSCL beat Canada.

Semi Final II
Canada vs. NYSCL. Canada batted first and made 145 all out. Y. Bogh top scored with 29. P. Beria took four wickets for twenty one runs. B. Prahalad chipped in with 2 for 29. NYSCL replied with 149 for 1 in fourteen overs. K. Sobhai top scored with an unbeaten 73.

The Florida Cup 2009 competition for Masters (Over 45) is also alive and well. Actually, the finalists are yet to be determined. There is around robin between five teams to determine the finalists. Play will resume at 8:00 pm under the floodlights this evening to wrap up play.

Florida Cup 2009 – Day 2, Session 1

The preliminary games were all completed earlier today in the Florida Cup 2009. The defending champions, Dream Team will not be in any of the two semifinals to be played later today. They were humbled by the surprise team of the tournament so far – Canada. South Florida will be the other team from Zone I in the semifinals. WISA and NYSCL are the other two semifinalists in Zone II.

The semifinals draw for the four teams will be: #1 (Canada) from Zone 1 vs. #2 (NYSCL) from Zone 2. and #1 (WISA) from Zone 2 vs. #2 (South Florida) from Zone 2.

Here are the results from the last qualifying games played this morning.

Zone I
Canada beat Dream Team by 20 runs. Canada batted first and made 158 all out. H. Chattergoon top scored with 44. He was supported by T. Yusuf with 38. N. Narine, M. Mukunlall, L. Mohan and Shawn all took two wickets apiece. Dream Team replied with 138 all out in 24 overs. K. Narine top scored with 30.

South Florida trounced Ocala by six wickets and 11 overs to spare. Ocala batted first and was bowled out for 136. P. Malipal and V. Sugrim made 24 each. J. Ali, I. Baldeo and A. Ramsaywack took two wickets each. Florida replied with 137 for 4 in 14 overs. A. Razack top scored with 72.

Zone II
WISA walloped Better Hope All Stars by 9 wickets. Better Hope took first strike and was bundled out for 88. D. Singh and P. Sukhra took two wickets apiece. WISA replied with 89 for 1. V. Seenarine made an unbeaten 58.

NYSCL beat Orlando by five wickets and 10 overs to spare. Orlando batted first and made 102 all out. Asif Adam top scored with 17. A. Moonsammy grabbed 3 for 16. He was supported by R. Prahalad with 3 for 19 and F. Baichu 2 for 10. NYSCL replied with 106 for 5.
