Cosmos Sizzling In October

By S. Ali
(Celebrating 26 Anniversary)- The season may have ended weeks ago for many teams, but not so for Cosmos, they continue to make full use of an 'extended' summer when they took on a Combined team in the Metropolitan Cricket League on an unusually warm mid October Sunday at Floyd Bennett.

Randy Nurse

Cosmos found themselves in some early trouble after they won the toss and elected to bat. Lakeram Latchman and Rasheem James hardly gave the scorer cause to enter a tick in total column, both falling to paceman Mickael Miller. Opening batsman Anthony Rampersaud showed good temperament throughout, as he and Sham Ali (45) repaired the Cosmos inning with a 99 runs partnership before Ali departed, Rampersaud went on to registered an excellent 69 runs, his highest score of the season. The exciting pony-tailed durag flopping Randy Nurse stroked a breezy few while Atiq Baksh once again found himself in the duck farm. The hardworking Nathan cross batted drive to mid off for a single gave him a one hundred percent strike rate as Cosmos recovered from an early setback to close their inning on a fighting 170 for 10 in their 30 overs.

Cosmos then tightened the screws on their opponents with an excellent opening spell from the promising left-handed medium pacer Keshan Dass who was brilliantly supported from nimble young legs in the field. Dass got the ball to lift appreciably off the seam, which accounted for two regulation catches in the slips. Former Jamaica national player Ordelmo Peters rallied Dass through his spell before he was the last man out for a patient 44 runs. Rasheem James was in the house; he announced his presence with a fully extended dive at point to hold on to a brilliant one-handed catch to dismissed a stunned Javein Thomas. Mohan Kissoon 3 for 34 ably supported by Thakur Singh 1 for 4 and a tight spell from Ricky Kissoon then spun cosmos to a comfortable 74 runs victory.

The two teams enjoyed a full day of cricket that was played in the true spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie; they hoped that such weather would last until December. On November 29, 2008, Cosmos will celebrate their 26th Annual Presentation at Regatti Terrace.
