Cosmos Too Bad For Lions

(Celebrating 26 Anniversary)- Cosmos have positioned themselves at the top of the points table when they tamed Lions in the final match of the MCL Round Robin competition at Riis Park, Brooklyn last Sunday.

Orville Williams

This Lions team never showed any form of seriousness for cricket on the day since their hopes of a playoff spot disappeared very early in the season, and the Riis outfield did not help either- the outfield is not only a depressing site but also a major disappointment for the sport. Lions rallied in their inning to 160 for 9 in their allotted 35 overs against a formidable cosmos bowling attack, D. Hart got 40 and C. Mills got 25.

It took a well constructed 60 runs fourth wicket partnership between Mohabir Moonesar (25) and Orville Williams (78 n.o.) and then a comfortable unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 70 runs between the inform Williams and Dixeth Palmer (n.o) to guide Cosmos safely home. Lions paceman Willie Charles - an excellent young fast bowler and one who is deserving of a chance on the new York region team - did served up three roars and a few hiccups when he removed Woolcock, Surujballi, and Nurse in his spell, however, Cosmos never looked too flustered in getting to their target.

Cosmos started the 2008 season with quite a few areas to mend if they wanted to give themselves a chance in the playoffs. They played the game at a high level, remained committed to their purpose, and focused on what is important for their team whilst they ignored all calculated distractions that have bombarded the team periodically. At the end of the Round Robin competition, Cosmos rise to the top of the points table when they completed the last match against Lions as a mere formality with a spot in the round robin semi finals and at the same time preparing for the color clothe competition against Mid Island next week.
