Cosmos Kings Conquered Commonwealth

(Celebrating 26 Anniversary)- An inning full of character from Cosmos Kings captain Leikram Latchman propelled his team to an emphatic victory over front runner Commonwealth Youths when the two teams met last Saturday at Whitestone Ferry Point in the Bronx.

Leikram Latchman

Latchman who succumbed to heat exhaustion during the first inning in his wicket keeping duties, rose to the challenge with the bat anchoring one end and in the process produced a captains knock in response to the opposition’s total.

Earlier, Commonwealth raced to an opening partnership of ninety in only nine overs. However, Kings kept their cool under the heat and affected the breakthrough. Their bowlers continued to maintained a good line picking up wickets at regular intervals, backed up by some excellent fielding. R. James completed a good all round performance, he was ably supported by K. Singh and E. Walters. Commonwealth was eventually bowled out for 176.

Kings replied to commonwealth’s total with a mature display from their batsmen. Latchman chiseled his way to a gritty half-century as he and Anthony Rampersaud (30) brave the sweltering heat to put on a solid 70 runs opening partnership. Lakeram showed that he is young a player to watch as he remained composed and held the inning together whilst getting good support from R. James 23. When Lakeram departed, Atiq Baksh (19) and Randy Nurse partnership of 25 runs took Kings to a comfortable 6-wicket victory. Kings effort in this match will certainly heighten their confidence for the weeks ahead. Kings will play Eastern American League next Saturday.
