| Wanderers United Roar into 2008 American League Knock-Out Finals!!! August 17th,
2008 After winning the toss, Captain Blair elected to send the opposition into bat hoping to take advantage of the good wicket at Kingsgrove and his quartet of seamers. This decision proved to be the correct one as Roberts (2wkts), bowling from the north end struck early and often with a healthy mix of away and in-swinging deliveries that the top order batsmen just were not able to negotiate fully and paid the ultimate price. Stamford were able to mount a mini rally after the water break taking the score from 27 runs for 5 wickets to just over sixty, but when spinner Jackman (4wkts) was introduced to the attack there was no turning back, the mop-up mode spelled the end for the visitors. They were crushed for a mere 83 runs. Wanderers United opened their innings with the seasoned Chan and a thirteen year old junior high school player named Yusuf who had been impressive a day earlier and was promoted in the batting order. Once again the little Guyanese batsman proved his worth by comfortably facing the new ball and setting the tone for things to come. Team Wanderers were able to reach their goal with the loss of only one wicket and Chan (40 not out) and Jackman (28 not out) lead all the way to the end. Chan later commented that this particular knock was not his best, referring to his amazing six lives, but what is more important is that we were able to get the win. |
