Cosmos Kings Defeated Nassau Youths

June 20th, 2008

(Celebrating 26 Anniversary)- Cosmos Kings demolished a hapless Nassau League Youths when the two teams met last Saturday at Foch Park in the first round of the New York Region Youth 45 overs competition.

Kings stepped up their efforts since they were without their ace all rounder Dominic Gomes for this match. Fastmen E. Walters and S. Muntasir bowled a good line swinging the ball quite appreciably. They found the edge three times only for the diving Hugh Craig in the slips to come up with two good brilliant catches and Saquib with one. Atiq Baksh then held on to two excellent running catch on the mid wicket boundary, while Nurse's brilliance in the field kept the pressure mounting. Kings kept the pressure on this opposition and Nassau Youths found it difficult recover from their early blows. However, what’s more disappointing is that there were no management present to assist these Nassau youths through the day. They were left on their own to show up to the park and play. For Nassau League to leave their Youth players to hang out and dry the way they did last Saturday is unacceptable and reckless. The youths, however, tried their best to cope under the circumstances.

Kings captain Liekram Latchman, did not release his grip on this opposition as he introduced his trump card Zakir Mohamed into the attack, Mohamed’s right hand leg spin googly proved to be high science for the Nassau's batsmen. He snared 4 wickets for just 2 runs off 2 overs to bundle out the opposition for a meagre 65 all out off 15.1 overs. Only A. Kalimooto (30) and K. Bridgepaul (9) showed some resistance. Bowling for Kings, E. Walters took 2 for31, S. Muntasir 1 for 11, Hugh Craig 2 for 10,

Kings opening batsmen Narine Kristoff and Leikram Latchman would then wield their bat for the next ten overs. Kristoff, a promising all rounder, stroked an aggressive 40 while Lakshman (9) played the anchor role to ensure a convincing ten wicket victory to sum up a spectacular all round performance from Cosmos Kings team.
