USA Cricket Umpires Association’s Training Program

By John L. Aaron
The United States of America Cricket Umpires Association has earmarked Sunday, January 13, 2008 as the kick-off date for its 2008 Umpires and Scorers Training Program.

The invitation is being extended to Regional Directors, League Presidents, Club officials and anyone interested in becoming a certified umpire and/or official scorer. USACUA is a member of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA).

The series of seminars will run for fourteen consecutive Sundays, culminating with the administration of the USACUA Preliminary and Final Exams. Individuals who have sat and passed the USACUA or the WICUA qualifying examinations are also required to attend these seminars.

According to Fitzroy Hayles, Vice President of USACUA, the seminars are taught by certified umpires and cover all aspects of the game, based on the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rules and regulations. He advised that individuals are encouraged to attend the seminars, even if they have no intention of participating in the WICUA’s final Written or Oral and Practical examinations.

Hayles cautioned that an eighty-percent attendance is required in order for an individual to sit an examination administered by the USACUA.

All of the training sessions will take place at Lucas Sports Club, 1012 Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn, between Tilden and Snyder Avenues, and each session starts promptly at 12:00 noon.
