Queens Village - Division II Champions

Queens Village CC walloped Sanders XI by nine wickets to take the West Indian Softball Association’s Division II 25 Over 2009 crown last Sunday at Charles Drew Park.

A team projected to do bigger and better things in 2009, Queens Village did not disappoint. Sanders XI batted first and found themselves in trouble immediately when they lost opener Nick Jophes caught off the bowling of B. Sookraj without scoring. The heralded much talked about Sudesh Persaud came to the crease and negotiated the next four deliveries from Sookraj before dispatching the last one of the over for a four.

Queens Village made a bold move at the end of the first over of the game – they brought in Ravi Parbhudial to open the bowling along side Sookraj. That decision would pay huge dividends as Parbhudial bowled Sudesh with the last ball of his first over. Sanders XI were 11 for 2.

Needing to consolidate, Sanders XI found the going tough against Sookraj and Parbhudial. The lost wickets in the 3rd, 4th and 6th overs and tattered at 19 for five after 6 overs. Sanders XI were happy to see Sookraj and Parbhudial away from the bowling crease.

The bowling change did not benefit any of Sanders’ XI players. Queens Village’s V. Shaw R. Singh and D. Morgan shared the last Sanders XI five wickets over 7.5 overs. Sanders XI were bundled out for a meager 52. Ravi Parbhudial had superb figures of 3 wickets for 6 runs off his five overs. He was excellently supported by V. Shaw with 3 wickets for 7 runs. B. Sookraj took two wickets while R. Singh and D. Morgan grabbed one wicket apiece.

Queens Village in reply knocked off the required 53 in 9.2 overs. Haseeb Ally was unbeaten on 28.

Richmond Hill Through To Premier Elite Semi
Richmond Hill beat Rising Stars by 59 runs to earn a semi final spot against Dynasty in the WISA 25 Over Premier Elite division of play.

Richmond Hill batted first and put together a respectable 183 for 9 off the allotted 25 overs. I say a respectable 183 because that score is like having a five run lead at PNC Park in Philly, Camden yards in Baltimore or the new Yankees Stadium. No lead is safe in those ball parks and it’s the same at St. Albans Park at Merrick and Sayres.

Clifflee Velaidum continued his run of consistent scoring with a patient 54. He was nicely supported by Krishna Chickery with 33 and Imran Wahab’s 29 that contained three 6s and a four. Ravi Aicharbar and Reynold took 2 for 30 and 2 for 36 respectively.

Rising Stars replied with 124 all out in 19.5 overs. The ever reliable Kawall top scored with 45. His lone support came from Tin Tin with 29. A. Shazaman bagged 4 wickets for 23 runs from his five overs while Ravi Lutchman took 3 for 9 from 4.1 overs.

In the other Premier Elite Quarter final, Wild Bunch beat Majestics by 4 four wickets and three deliveries to spare. However, Majestics has filed a protest pertaining to possible registration infraction(s). Cornered Tigers will play Wild Bunch or Majestics pending the outcome of the hearing.
