Vasquez Century Plunders Rising Sun Debut

On opening day of the New York Softball Cricket League 2008 season, Sunrise took on the Rising Sun at Bay Waters Park. With windy and cold condition Sunrise all-rounder Vasquez was outstanding scoring the first century (104) of the season and grabbing 4 wickets for 17 runs in Sunrise victory. Sunrise won the toss and decided to bat. The opening pair was separated with the score on11. The top order of the batting line up kept the score going at a slow pace but not until the appearance of the stroke playing Vasquez at the crease did the cold and windy atmosphere became warm with fire works and boundaries from his bat.

During his stay at the wicket with Dave and Javid he drove the ball all over the field hitting twelve sixes and four fours in his 104.Vasquez attempted to hit the ball out of the ground in his devastating mood after his century once more but were caught deep on the long off boundary. Sunrise in its allotted overs made 227 runs; other good knocks came from Roy Singh (17), Sasenarine (19) and Deonarine Singh (24). The pick of the bowlers for Rising Sun was Ravin taking three for 49, A. Singh and Dave Boodhoo took two wickets each.

Rising Sun, M. Somai top score with 45, Mahendra 29 and Singh 26 offered good support in a total off 188 all out. The Sunrise bowlers stuck to their task although the opposition showed much determination but was not enough. Kris Narine, Derrick, Stanley, Dave, Salim and Sase all put in a splendid bowling performance to contain the Rising Sun batsman. It was Vasquez day as he return and bowled a fine spell in his allotted overs. The win was a tremendous boost for the Sunrise team; the team could use this victory to as a guide for the other games.
