Bobby Shines On NYSCL Opening Day

The New York Softball Cricket League 2009 season got of to a marvelous start last Sunday with all the games completed and some outstanding performances by players. The 2008 season cricketer of the year Bobby Pahalad of United Stars send out an early signal that he would be looking to make it a triple cricketer of the year award in as many years. Bowling for his team in the game against Mafia he grabbed 5 wickets for 8 runs in his spell of five overs. Bobby was in fine form as he knocks back the stumps of four batsmen and had R. Sugrim caught for his fifth victims, his spell of five overs including 3 maidens. Mafia batted first scoring 110 in twenty one overs, extras top scoring with 33 followed closely by V. Singh who scored 31. Bhola Pahalad 1-28, Frankie Baichoo 1-33 and Ravin Ivan 1- 7 also shared in doing the damage. (Gallery)

Bobby Pahalad of United Stars started the season with a bang taking five wickets for 8 runs in the New York Softball Cricket League.

United Stars in reply knocked of the required runs in twelve overs with Ravi Balli 33, Ward 33 not out and V. Seenarine 25 not out getting their team to victory lane. R. Sankar and A. Beharry each took a wicket for Mafia.

In other division I A games, Untouchables won a nail bitter against Country Boys; Untouchables batting first scored 234 and Country Boys replying with 216, Andrew Jerrick and Garcia the leading scorer for Country Boys.

In the game Hustlers versus Cavaliers, Hustlers strike early when Cavaliers took the crease but was unable to get the job done as the Arjune brothers took the attack to the bowlers. Cavaliers replying to Hustlers 125 all out, N. Briglal 30 and Ravi 26 not out. Cavaliers scored 127 for 5, J. Arjune 42 not out, G. Arjune 37 bowling for Hustlers Shawn, Ravi and N. Brijlal each took a wicket.

The new team Triumph playing in division IA for the first time got of to a good start batting first against Braveheart and scoring a total of 155 in the 25 overs and restricting Braveheart to 146 all out. Triumph all rounder Boodram Deopaul top score for Triumph with 43 and Vishnu 39, Omesh grabbed 3 wickets for 16 runs. Getting amongst the runs for Braveheart was Kevin Deodat with 30 and Dave 15, Kenny took 5 wickets for 28 runs to secure victory for Triumph.

The Eon Ellis’s Assassins was stopped by Liberty Knights needing another 2 runs as their overs ran out. The Jaichand Jewelers sponsored Liberty Knights, batting first scored 167 all out and Brian Manniram putting a fine all round performance scoring 36 runs and return with the ball grabbing 3 for 46, Amar Singh 29 and V. Persaud 22 were the other main scorers. Avi took 4 for 34, S. Dilchand 2 for 32 were the wicket taker for Assassins. Assassins made a slow start in their reply but with their skipper Eon Ellis still at the crease batting at number seven he took the attack to the bowlers finding the boundary many times. But it was an effort a little too late as the overs came to an end and Eon left on 72 not out, still needing 2 more runs, Walker and N. Persaud took 2 wickets each and Liberty Knights prevail.

In division IB, Wildfire looked as sharp and ready to challenge the other teams in this division for the championship winning easy against Sheffield. Wildfire won the toss and asked Sheffield to bat, the only batsman to reach double figure was the captain Blue who top score with 28 not out in a total of 61. Bowling for Wildfire Alan Khan took 3 for 18, Looknauth Singh 2 for 10 and Vinod Singh 2 for 20. Wildfire reply with 63 for 1 wicket in twelve overs M. Narine top scored with 40 not out and M. Persaud 14 not out.

Canal made easy work of the New York All-Stars; All-Stars batted first scored 101 all out S. Dhanpaul scoring 43 and L. Benjamin 13. David Umadhan took 3 for 13, R. Baldeo, P. Hariprashad, D. Singh and Shameer each grabbed one wicket. The Canal fielding was superb with three run outs as this was one of the main causes restricting the All-Star batsmen. Canal knocked of the require runs in the thirteenth over with Danny Singh top scoring with 42 and Umadhan 30 for the loss of 2 wickets. Ranchers took the win against Master Blaster.

Division IIA the new looked Lions took an early lead wining their first game of the season against Port Mourtant All-Star. Unpredictable loss a good fight to Eagle Lounge, a game that was going all the Unpredictable way until the number eleventh batsman struck 18 runs in one over to sealed the victory for the Eagle Lounge.

Volcano got the better of Better Hope; Better Hope scored 145 for 4 and Volcano reply with 147 for 4. Volcano, Khemlall top score with 56 and Yadram 36.

Essequibo XI returning to the league after many years played a nail bitter against New York Mid Rise. Mid Rise batting first scored 134 all out, E. Sookraj 52. Essequibo XI reply with 136 for 3 in twenty four overs C. Holder 40, C. Williams 25 and Blackman 24 not out.

Division IIB Champions loss to Flashers 160 all out, Vickram 56, Rajkumar took 3 for 19 for Champions. Champions reply with 143 all out D. Rampersaud 41, Vickram 3 for 19 and Darmin 2 for 23 did the damage for Flashers.

Strikers won against Rising Sun and Young Brothers defeated Invaders. Invaders won the toss and choose to bat first scoring 97 all out in 19.1 overs with Winston top scoring with 36, George14 and N.Bickram14 were the main scores for Invaders. Bowling for Young Brothers captain T. Dhanraj taking 4 for 29, V. Gunga 3 for 9, C. Roopnarine and P. Mohan took one wicket each.

Young Brothers reply with 100 for 4 in 19.4 overs with N. Tiwari leading the way with 26, V.Gunga 17 and T.Dhanraj 13 not out. Bowling for Invaders V. Ramdass took 2 for 27, R.Bachus1 for 19 and George1 for 7.

Wolf Pack loss to Legends, Wolf Pack 134 all out D. Autar 26, J. Tahal 19 and S. Adam 16 were amongst the runs. Bowling for Legends P. Singh 3 for 20, B. Bhadrasain 2 for 14 and D. Morrison 2 for 18. Legends reply with 149 for 7 wickets Baio Kalika top score with 36, T. Morrison 17 and DE Morrison 16, S. Adam took 3 for 28 in a losing cause for Wolf Pack.

Cricket International loss to Young West Indies, Cricket International scored 144 all out, Mangal 32 and R. Mohabir 22. Roy Williams was in fine form as he grabbed 5 wickets for 19 runs sending Cricket International to defeat. Young West Indies scored 145 for 1 wicket; Rickey top score with 77 not out and Richard 27, M. Mohabir took 2 wickets for 11 runs.

Falcons defeated Buccaneers, Buccaneers scored 146 for 6 wickets, M. Seopaul 72 top score, Derrick took 2 for 11, N. Navin, B. Navin and Vick each took a wicket. Falcons reply with 147 for 3, Navin Bispat 34, V. Ramnarine 29 and R. Mahadeo 15. Boysie took 2 for 28 and Brahim 1 for 25. Ravens got a walkover against Braves who failed to show.
