Khan 7-0-13-3 'Rising Star' Rise At The Season Opener When a few experienced cricketers in New York decided that it was time to pass-on the button to the next generation of cricketers, a road map had to be created to ensure that the selected young cricketers were equipped with the necessary tools and were given the appropriate leadership to continue to learn and enjoy the wonderful game of cricket. After many months of indoor and outdoor practice sessions, the Rising Star Cricket Club was ready to start their inaugural season in Eastern American Cricket Association (EACA) this past Sunday. After winning the toss, captain Ricky Kissoon elected to bat first on a concrete wicket at Heckscher Park. This being the first game for the club, the youngsters were nervous and it showed in the top order. Unfortunately, a few bad decisions by the umpire put Rising Star on the back foot losing 6 wickets for less than 60 runs. But the bottom order put their head down and showed why they deserve to be given a chance in league cricket. Led by an aggressive stroke play of Anthony Rampersaud with his 35, the team ended with a respectable 155 all out in the last over of the 35 over match. This provided enough boost to the players to go to work. And did they go to work! The opening bowling pair of Abdullah Sheikh and Rasheem James dismantled the top order of Victory Cricket Club each taking 3 wickets for 9 and 14 runs, respectively. The follow-on pair of Regis Burton and Kishan Dass continued the demolishing project with Burton taking 1 for 1 and Dass making his mark with the figures of 3 for 3. At the end, Victory Cricket Club was crumbled for a mere 32 runs. As this was the first game of the inaugural season, Rising Star cannot expect to walk over teams as they were able to at their season opener. Formidable teams in EACA will be eyeing for this young team. Rising Star
has the pleasure of having 9 players age 20 or younger. With the
motto to "Promote the Next Generation of Cricketers",
the club aims to foster the best environment for the young cricketers
in the New York area. Rising
