Bank Too Much For Trini Boyz
East Bank crushed Trini Boyz by 158 runs in the 2nd round of the 2008
EACA 40 Overs Cricket Competition.
On a cold and overcast day at Bay Park, Long Island, Trini Boys won
the toss and sent East Bank in to bat. East Bank got off to a solid
opening partnership with newcomer Troy Harper and the veteran Debo Sankar,
the pair posted 96 runs in 16 overs before Harper was stumped for a
well-played 35 (3x4).
Sankar was joined by New York Under 19 captain Greg Sewdial as the duo
added 46 in as many deliveries, before Sankar was stumped for 77 (6x4,
2x6) with score on 142. Sewdial was bowled three runs later when on
Derek Kallicharran was unbeaten on 26, following up on his 77 against
Everest/ACS in the 1st round game, as East Bank posted a solid 211 for
7 wickets in 40 overs. With the rain consistently drizzling, East Bank
decided not to give the new ball to their franchise fast bowler Telston
Johnson, they trusted it to another veteran swing bowler Sohan Das,
playing in his 1st game of the season, and he swung it like a hammock,
finishing with career best seven wickets for 19 runs. Trini Boyz could
not handle the swing as none of their batsmen got into double figures,
and Mr. Extras top scored with 17 in Trini Boyz’ 53 run response.
As the league rests for the Memorial Day Weekend, East Bank will go
up against Hillside at Bay Park on June 1, with Derek McDonald and Joey
Sadloo expected to join the victorious East Bank squad.
