Bank Too Much For Enmore
As Harper Hits 98 Not Out
East Bank beat Enmore in the 8th round of the EACA 40 overs competition
to stake a claim for qualifying for the BIG 4. Enmore won the toss and
take 1st strike were of to a solid start with captain Imran Ali and
Anil Seebaran. They add 55 for the 1st wicket in 7 overs, with Ali doing
most of the scoring 26, hitting Guyana pacer Telston Johnson for 2 consecutive
sixes before being stickup from a rising delivery.

Seebaran
was struck in the mid-riff by Johnson, before being LBW next ball, as
Enmore slip to 59 for 2 in 9 overs. However the veteran Syed Mohamed
and former Guyana under 19 batsman Safraz Ali add 86 for the 4th wicket.
Mohamed batted patiently for a well crafted 50 (6x4,1x6) while Ali was
the more aggressor with an unbeaten 73 (4x4, 2x6), especially in the
final overs when he scored 25 in the last 2 overs of the Enmore innings
to post a challenging 235 for 6. East Bank pacer Telston Johnson was
expensive taking 3 for 65 in his 8 overs.
East Bank opening pair added 40 in 7 overs, before the out of form Zaheer
Sadloo (11), flicking Seebaran to wide fine leg only to find Jerry Persaud
in the way. The young Greg Sewdial didn’t last long as he tried
to play aggressively and was caught in the covers for 9.
Then walked in Troy Harper, playing his first season in the 2008 EACA
league. He and the ever reliable veteran Debo Sankar added 91 in 15
overs, before the watchful Sankar was LBW to another West Indian veteran
Sew Shivnarain for 56 (4x4, 1x6). Harper in the mean while was batting
freely hitting the boundaries and running the two’s. He was drop
twice by the Enmore fielders, as he went after Enmore pacer Bola and
spinner Backtowar, both giving away 60 in their 8 overs.
It came down to Harper need to score 10 runs out of 12 to bring his
hundred up, but could only manage 8 as he was unbeaten on 98 (7x4, 2x6)
and Derrick Kallicharran 34, as East Bank reached 236 for 4 in 35 overs.
East Bank now needs to win 2 of there next 3 games to qualify for the
EACA big 4.
