A rejuvenated Melroy Kingston seized the opportunity to pile up some runs and much needed match practice as he compiled a solid 40 runs third wicket partnership with Dennis Evans bowled for 36 and another with Clive Samuels run out for 20. New York Region youth player Marlon Persaud, promoted to the opening position, looked comfortable against the opposition's opening attack before he was brilliantly run out by Omar Watson on a direct strike from fine leg while attempting a second run. The Cosmos middle order batsmen stuck to their task and applied themselves well on a pitch that continues to present a few early-season surprises. Add to that a heavy outfield that had sprung to life from several days of continuous showers, the conditions became even more arduous for the two competitors. Earlier in the afternoon, Liberty won the toss and elected to take first strike. Liberty got off to a rocky beginning, when Sham Ali induced a faulted stroke from opener, Jason Graves. Thereafter, it seemed like it was all downhill for the seemingly overmatched visitors as a steady procession of batsmen would emerge between Liberty’s players pavilion and the wicket. The Cosmos bowlers stuck to the task as Ali, George Adams and Kevin Darlington sent down three unyielding spells that constrained the new look and youthful Liberty team before Kingston and Evans completed the rout, reducing Liberty to a paltry 114 runs all out. D. Walton, J. Mohamed, and Q. Alfred managed 22, 18, and 20 runs respectively. Otherwise, the Liberty batting offered minimal resistance to Cosmos’ potent and prolific bowling attack. Cosmos achieved their target of 115 runs with relative ease to register a convincing six wicket victory. Cosmos will play Lucas next Sunday at Marine Park, Brooklyn. Summary
