Dr. Kelly Bowls First ball To Open Divisional Play Between Columbia University And New York Storm June 8th, 2009 Under gorgeous blue skies on a Sunday that was almost perfect, Dr. Tom Kelly, Head of School at Horace Mann, performed the opening ceremony between the match played between Columbia University Cricket Club and New York Storm CC.
He was presented to the 2 teams before start of play by Lesly Lowe, President of the Commonwealth Cricket League. Dr. Kelly was then introduced to all 22 players on both teams by the respective captains. Shiam did the honours for his team while skipper Sunil did for the Columbia squad. After that he walked out to the pitch with the 11 members of the NY Storm team and bowled the first ball of the game to the opening batsman of the Columbia team. One which landed perfectly in the middle of the matting. As a member of the Van Cortlandt Conservancy Board, he plays a very active role in affairs pertaining to Van Cortlandt Park and last week hosted a V.C.C.B meeting at Horace School. Present at that meeting were other members of the VCCB along with Margot Perron, Admisistrator of VCP, Commissioner Hector Aponte of Bronx Parks, members of the Community Board and other supporters of the Conservancy including the President of the Commonwealth Cricket League. Dr. Kelly is an avid cricket fan who has played a few matches and one could tell by his bowling form that he will be a good 'catch' for any team playing in Van Cortlandt park that's looking for a decent medium-pace bowler. Commonwealth
Cricket League president Lesly Lowe is very appreciative of his
efforts to turn out yesterday and hopes that teams from the C.C.L.
will see Dr. Kelly at many more of the matches before the summer
is over. |
