Area Youths Set To Represent Empire State

New York Region will be represented by a very competent squad
at this year’s United States of America Cricket Association’s
Under-19 Eastern Conference Cricket Tournament, scheduled
for Atlanta, Georgia from July 14 – 16.
Set to leave next Thursday evening for the Peach State, will
be a fourteen-man squad that includes young all-rounder Gregory
Sewdial, Dwayne Hurley, Akeem Dodson, (Vice Capt.), Hanuman
Ramsadag, Dwayne Smith, Karan Ganesh (Capt.), David A Umadhan,
Alexandino Kirton, Saud Mohamed Hossein, Hunain Munir, Surindra
Sukhdeo, Jarein Thomas, Anand V. Singh and Basdeo Ramnarain.
The stand-by players are Shaan H Mehta, Joel Clarke, Muhendra
Hariraj and Sean Mendonza. The team officials are Linden Fraser
(Coach) and Rudy Persaud, Manager.
Also accompanying the team will be Lloyd Dickson and Gary
Nascimento with Carlyle Miller, one of the New York Regional
The New York Regional squad is expected to give a good account
of themselves, as representatives of the Empire State, against
the South East, North East and Atlantic regions.
The outstanding New York batsmen in the squad are Umadhan,
and Hoosein, each with recent centuries in the current Tri-state
tournament and wicket-keeper batsman Dodson, recently back
from the Under-19 World Youth Championships in Sri Lanka and
Anand Singh – a quick scorer. Munir, Kirton, Thomas
and Smith, among others, are expected to uphold the bowlers
Skipper Ganesh wields both the ball and the bat extremely
well and is much qualified to lead his group of young peers.
