Guyana Defeats T&T in Hunt for Historical Third Twenty20 Championship

Defending Champions Guyana is looking to create history as the only team to win the Ed Ahmad Cricket Cup Twenty20 Championship three consecutive times. The 2006 and 2007 Ahmad Cricket Cup Twenty20 Champs are well on their way to achieving another milestone.

Backed by an efficient and organized executive body, the players are expected to give another spectacular performance this weekend. Encouraged by the Guyanese fans, numbering in the hundreds, serves as morale boost for the players. The Guyana Team will take on Jamaica in the final, a team which they beat in the preliminary rounds earlier in the competition, this Saturday, Sept 6, 2008 @ 1pm at Idlewild Park, in Rosedale, Queens.

In last Saturday semi-finals: Guyana batted first, scoring 176 for 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Andrew Gonsalves top scored with 56, Neil McGarrell, 32 not out. Captain Steve Massiah with 31, Zaheer Saffie, 14, Sudesh Dhaniram, 13 and Khaleem Bux, 15 not out, added to Guyana’s total. N. Moonasar took 2 for 27 for the Trinidadians. In reply, Trinidad and Tobago scored 125 for 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Bowling for Guyana, Reon King 2-29, McGarrel l 2-8, K Darlington 1-23 and K. Bux 1-23.

The Ahmad Cricket Cup is the premier cricket championship played in the United States. Ed Ahmad, CEO of the Ahmad Group of Companies must be applauded for his sterling contribution to first-class cricket in the USA.

Sometimes as we focus on the talent of the players, we must also acknowledge the "players" behind the scene, namely the executive body which is doing a remarkable job ensuring the seamless operation of the Guyana Cricket team as a whole.
