Cricket Team Rearing To Go!!!
By Sham Ali May 5th, 2009 The excitement of cricket, lovely cricket is taking over Stuyvesant High School Tigers Cricket Team by storm. It is quite refreshing to see the passion that the boys from Stuyvesant Tigers have displayed in only their second season competing in the highly recognized NYC public school cricket program (PSAL) headed by Cricket Commissioner Bassett Thompson.
Stuyvesant - one of New York City's top high schools
is noted for their academic achievements and excellence is now transferring
some of their competitive spirit into a cricket team that is full
of energy and enthusiasm. They will certainly be a force to be reckoned
within the near future. Though the road ahead will be difficult, it
seems to be a challenge that has been willingly accepted. The t
eam
is coached by Mohamed Zafee Khan, a prominent wicketkeeper / opening
batsman in the New York City Cricket Region for over two and one half
decades and a certified coach with the Queensland Cricket Academy.
He has a sharp cricket mind and wealth of experience in the game.
Coach Khan has recognized that the task of coaching at the grassroots level requires patience, dedication, perserverance and shown that desire to coach his team. According to Coach Khan, "these kids are a joy to coach, they have showed the eagerness to learn the game and the enjoyment of being around on the cricket field, to them it is one of the most significant factor." While coach Khan has recognized that the competition among the other high schools will be tough, he is confident that his team will be ready and will only get better in the months ahead. He reminded them that in the end, winning has no value in the game if they do not enjoy playing cricket and having fun at the same time. |
